A man who served four years in prison after being convicted of molesting children died Friday, weeks after he was allegedly beaten by a group of angry parents who one person said was looking for "revenge."

Marcelo Pecollo, 42, was attacked on Oct. 30 after he performed with a local orchestra at a cathedral in Morón, according to Agence France-Presse. Pecollo worked as a music teacher and played trumpet with the orchestra. He was in a coma following the beating, before his death this week.

In 2010, Pecollo was convicted of molesting five preschool students. He was released in 2014 after his initial sentence was reduced, according to AFP.

Reports indicate a priest at the cathedral where Pecollo had performed called the beating "murder." He said the group "took justice into their own hands, but it was revenge."

Pecollo was beaten with his trumpet, according to AFP.
