U.S. Representative Jim Cooper joined the fight to keep a gas compressor station out of Joelton.

Cooper spoke at Thursday night's meeting regarding the proposed pipeline in Joelton. Neighbors have been fighting the plan for months, saying the compressor station could jeopardize the health and safety of families.

Cooper added his voice to the opposition, saying changes to any community needed to involve its residents.

"We need highways, we need electric lines, we need gas lines, but it's got to be done cooperatively with the community to have enough buffer zone, so that people are not hurt and so property values don't go down," said Cooper.

While Metro looks into the proposal, the final say on the matter will comes from the EPA.
