Board members of the Metro Nashville School Board took up the topic of later school start times during Tuesday's board meeting.

Research is clear starting high school at 7 a.m. is counterproductive to the biological clock of teenagers," said Jill Speering, who brought up the topic for discussion.

She argued the change would benefit students.

Others expressed concerns about the impact on extra curricular activities, traffic, and the cost to the district.

Board members had mixed opinions, but decided to do more research on the topic to look at the pros and cons of the issue.

I think this is something we should do for our children we know it will help them do better in life and perform better in school," said Amy Frogge.

"Traffic is just horrible and to put that many more people on the road and be a disaster for drivers and the city of Nashville," said Mary Pierce.

The same topic recently came up in Williamson County Schools. The board tabled the discussion earlier this month.
