The number of shootings has risen significantly in Nashville since this time last year.

Eighteen people have been shot since last Wednesday in Metro in nearly to a dozen incidents. Five people have been killed and police have only made arrests in one of those homicides.

Detectives arrested 20-year-old Montell Sowell and 14-year-old Mario Woodard after they said surveillance puts them at the May 19 murder of Travis Rosemond at the James Cayce Homes.

Both of the suspects were also wounded in the shootout. Sowell was the seventh and youngest juvenile charged with homicide this year.

Data provided by the Metro Nashville Police Department shows nearly 140 people have been shot this year - up 55 percent since last year.

Fifteen of the victims were juveniles. The majority of the shootings have happened in the North Police Precinct.
