A Pizzeria in North Nashville has become the new hot spot in the Buchanan District, but some residents are concerned they won't be able to stay in their homes long enough to see its success.

"For the last couple months Ive been hearing this all day. Day in and day out," said Lakeisha Riley.

That sound was the daunting sound of construction, as developers changed the look of a tight knit North Nashville community, and for Riley, the sound was a constant reminder that her home may be next.

"One day they're going to come and tear this one down," said Riley.

Homes that have been standing in Nashville for decades have been torn down, with new homes in their place, and some North Nashville residents said they felt like they're being pushed out.

"The news houses that their building that they're building, stuff that people in our class can't afford. I feel like they're trying to push us out of here," said Riley.

A new home under construction is just three doors down from Riley's home, and with a price tag between $300,000 and $400,000, Riley's not sure where she would live if she got booted out.

But Slim and Husky's is hoping their foot print keeps the spirit of North Nashville alive.

"This area's been somewhat of a food dessert and as its changing we definitely wanted to play a part in it. We wanted to play a 90s Hip Hop and R&B theme and bring that nostalgic era of music we grew up," said Clinton Gray III, Slim and Husky's Co -Owner.

The three business owners grew up in Nashville, and are hoping their home grown roots add to the community, and make sure the heart of North Nashville doesn't get forgotten in all of the new development.

"It's experiencing gentrification, and that's going to happen but we wanted to leave our foot print on this block," said Derrick D'Mo Moore, Slim and Husky's Co-Owner.
