The campaign is heating up in a contentious state senate race in Nashville between incumbent Steve Dickerson and challenger Erin Coleman.

And now a mailer sent out against Coleman is stirring up controversy.

It shows state senate candidate Erin Coleman, who is Jewish, running out of a burning building with a bag stuffed with cash.

Leading some -- including Coleman -- to say the mailer stereotypes the Jewish community, and has anti-Semitic connotations.

The mailer was sent out by the Tennessee Republican Party.

“To have these undertones kind of clouding the day, it's not ok, and I think it's something that Nashville is better than,” Coleman said.

“I condemn any sort of negative campaigning, anything that plays on stereotypes, anything the plays on ethnicity or religion,” Dickerson said.

The state Republican Party says the Coleman campaign is simply overreaching for media attention in calling the mailer anti-Semitic.
