The Nashville Predators have named defenseman Roman Josi the seventh captain in team history at a press conference ahead of the team's first preseason game Tuesday at Bridgestone Arena.

The 27-year-old Josi becomes the team's third captain in as many seasons, following Shea Weber and Mike Fisher. The 37-year-old Fisher retired this summer after helping lead the Preds to the Stanley Cup Final in June.

Josi became the second Swiss player to be named as an NHL captain after Mark Streit was named captain of the Islanders for the 2011 season.

Fellow defenseman Ryan Ellis was named to the newly created position of associate captain after also being interviewed for the captain position by head coach Peter Laviolette.

Center Ryan Johansen, forward Filip Forsberg and defenseman Mattias Ekholm were all named assistant captains and round out the Preds' leadership team.
