Police Search For Clues In South Nashville Murder

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said two men stood in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Tampa Drive in South Nashville, when two men came up to them and started shooting.

Gabrial Lopez and a friend were at the Harding Glen Apartments at 8 p.m. on February 13.

"The man Mr. Lopez was speaking with was also shot. We know there were multiple rounds found or multiple shots were fired, but we have no idea who the suspect is," said Metro police officer Brad Corcoran.

Lopez was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he died the next day.

Police thought the crime was a robbery. The shooters ran away to a silver car and sped away.

"There was a vehicle seen in the area, a suspect vehicle, but the statements are conflicting, so we're not sure what type of vehicle it was. It appears to be some type of Chevrolet, a light color," said Corcoran.

Police said the men may have robbed other people in the same area.

"We feel like this was a random robbery. There have been some other robberies in the area of this nature where people are getting out of their vehicle in parking lots and are approached by other individuals," said Corcoran.

Police said residents should be concerned because the crime happened on a Friday night in a crowded apartment complex and someone else could have been hurt or killed.

If you witnessed the crime or have information about the murder of Gabrial Lopez, call Crime Stoppers at 74-Crime.
