Police Need Help Identifying Suspects In Stray Bullet Murder

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police need help solving the murder of an innocent 16-year-old girl in north Nashville. Last month Loren Johnson was shot and killed while she sat in her bedroom.

The bullet was intended for someone else, but instead it hit Loren's home on April 25.

At 4 p.m. Loren was sitting on her bed talking to her mother when a bullet struck the house, went through the wall and hit Loren in the back.

"When she was hit by the bullet she jumped up. She staggered into the kitchen and that's where she collapsed. She later died from the gunshot wound," said Metro police officer Billy Jackson.

Police said the bullet came from a car on the 3600 block of Chesapeake Drive. Witnesses told police, people in the car fired several shots at two men who were walking down the street.

The men were not hurt.

"The bullet came in. At this point we don't have any leads into this. We know there were witnesses out there that might be afraid to come forward to talk to us," said Jackson.

Witnesses who have come forward described the car to police as a bluish green Toyota or Honda.

Another witness described a black Chevrolet Impala or Malibu.

Police said they had identified the intended victims and interviewed them. They still do not have leads.

"It could have been my daughter. It could have been your daughter. To be honest with you, all of the cases I've had since I've been a detective this is the one that has struck me most, and I admit as a grown man I teared up on it," said Jackson.
