NASHVILLE, Tenn. - New information from the Metro Nashville Police Department - Sergeant Mark Chesnut has been upgraded to stable condition.
One week ago Sgt. Chesnut was shot during a traffic stop on I-40 on the west side of Nashville. After several medical procedures, he was put under medical coma while he recovered from some of his injuries.
After making progress, doctors upgraded his condition. They said Sgt. Chesnut was awake and alert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Metro Chief Ronal Serpas was able to briefly visit with Chesnut for the first time.
"I am energized by Mark's strong spirit conveyed during our conversation," Serpas said. "He is a survivor in every sense of the word."
Chief Serpas said the Sergeant was sincerely grateful for all the prayers and expressions of concern.
