Crime Stoppers: Police Search For Man Shooting Prostitutes
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police fear a man shooting prostitutes in Nashville may turn into a serial killer. He has shot two women and one almost died.
Police are worried the next woman he contacts may not live. One victim described him as an older man. She said he did not seem to care about human life after he left her to die on the side of the road.
"His intention was to murder me," said former prostitute ‘Karen.'
Two months ago Karen almost died. She was a prostitute addicted to crack cocaine. On the morning of May 12 a John in a gold Ford Ranger pickup truck picked her up near Trinity Lane.
"The first spot I didn't agree with because it was in the woods, and he said so let's go to his spot," said Karen.
His spot was several miles away near a creek off of Whites Creek Pike. She got ready to have sex and the man pulled out a gun and shot her from behind.
"No anger, no outrage, nothing," said Karen.
Then he shot her again. The bullet hit her in the collar bone and ended up just a few centimeters from her spinal cord.
"He stood about ten feet from me. After he shot me in the rectum and he just aimed the gun at me and shot me in the shoulder and then just walked off like it was nothing," said Karen.
It took three attempts but Karen climbed up an embankment and over the guardrail. Someone noticed her and called 911.
Police said this was not the man's first encounter with a prostitute.
"He had made a comment that he'd been to certain areas. He'd been to the Airways Motel and that he'd been done wrong there by another female where his pants were actually taken," said Dean Haney, Metro Police Department.
They also believe he shot at another prostitute two months earlier near the Congress Inn on Dickerson Pike and hit her in the arm.
Police fear there may be other victims who have not come forward and the shooter could end up killing someone.
"Pretty cold blooded - I mean that's a person who has no regard for life just to shoot somebody and leave them. It could be anybody he could do that to," said Haney.
The suspect drives a gold Ford Ranger extended cab pickup. He's about 5'5" and weighs close to 160 pounds and he's in his 60's.
"He's just innocent and he was small and just looked like somebody's grandpa," said Karen.
Police are trying to get the information out to people who are working the streets. Metro Police said they had followed a few leads but nothing has panned out and helped them find the shooter.
