Palmer Smith Faces New Charges In Missing Wife's Case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have long considered Palmer Smith a suspect in his wife Marcie's disappearance. A grand jury has indicted him on new felony charges in connection with the case.

Smith is now charged with six felony counts of making a false report to police, and two counts of fabricating evidence.

Marcie Smith disappeared in December 2007. Her SUV was found in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

The new indictments accuse Palmer Smith of lying to police the night his wife disappeared, and also using her vehicle to affect the outcome of the investigation. The indictment doesn't say how he used the vehicle.

Palmer Smith is not charged with his wife's murder. He will go on trial next week on charges he lied to police.
