Vandy Could Be Without Top Tackler At Tennessee

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Vanderbilt will have to wait and see if their leading tackler will be available as they try to snap a seven-game skid at Tennessee.

Coach Bobby Johnson said linebacker Patrick Benoist still is having symptoms from the concussion suffered in last Saturday's 24-13 loss to Kentucky. The senior was hurt in the first half when crunched between two Kentucky players and was helped off the field.

He was taken to a hospital for tests, but Johnson said Monday a CT scan was negative.

Benoist is the Southeastern Conference's sixth-best tackler, and the Commodores (2-9, 0-7) struggled to stop the run without him.

Johnson said doctors will have the final word in clearing Benoist to play.

Vanderbilt has beaten Tennessee (5-5, 2-4) only once since 1982.
