Music City Improv

What:  One Mother Of An Improv Show

Description: May 18th is not only National Cheese Souffle Day but also, National Rooster Day. With two such important holidays both occurring in May, that could only mean one thing...this is going to be one MOTHER of an improv show. As always the Music City Improv cast is poised to make you laugh with improv games, short form and a little singing from time to time.  Please be patient if cast member Stu Robinson insists on showing you pictures of his rooster. He is very proud of the little fella.

Ticket sales at the door begin at 7:00PM. $12 at the door, but if you bring a souffle recipe you'll get $1 off! Doors officially open at 7:40 and the show begins at 8:00PM sharp.

Why: Nicholas Boothman delivers his uplifting and inspiring message on the health and longevity benefits of connecting with other people to his target audience of adults of 35 years and up.

We have been asked to pull ages, 35 and up. We need full names, ages, current photo (for security purposes) and phone numbers of all participants, so we can start the confirmation process. The location will be sent to you in the confirmation letter. Ellie's Run for Africa Event 

When: Saturday, May 19, 2012 - 6:30 am, registration and entertainment and activities begin; 7:30 am, 5K race starts; 8:30 am, one-mile kids' fun run  

Where: 1st Avenue & Broadway, in front of Hard Rock Cafe, downtown Nashville

Why: Ellie Ambrose, who founded Ellie's Run for Africa at age 10 in 2004, will kick off the eighth annual 5K race at 7:30 a.m. on May 19, 2012 at 1st Ave. and Broadway in downtown Nashville, a new location. Ellie's Run supports high school education for kids in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya and occurs days before Ambrose graduates from Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy.

Pushups For Charity

 

 
What:  A national fundraising event to benefit the military veterans and their families. Participants enlist the help of friends and family for sponsorships, with donations of as little as $0.50 per push up. The nationwide goal is to raise $500,000 to benefit The Boot Campaign, a non-profit that donates proceeds to a group of partner charities that work with soldiers healing from a variety of physical and emotional combat wounds, embodying the campaign motto that, "When They Come Back, We Give Back."  Tennessee Kettlebell has a local goal of $10,000.

The Davidson County Master Gardeners - "Gardening A to Z"
  
When: Saturday, May 19, 2012  9:00 am to 2:00 pm
 
Where: Demonstration Garden at Ellington Agricultural Center - 5201 Marchant Drive, Nashville, TN  37211
Why: The all-day event is open to the community and will feature Garden lectures such as "Soil Preparation & Vegetables" by Jeff Poppen, The Barefoot Farmer, "Rain Gardens", "Home Landscape Design", "Annuals & Perennials". There will also be demonstration gardens, gardening information booths including a "Question & Answer" booth by the Master Gardeners and Jr. Master Gardener, a White Elephant sale, and a plant sale. Food will also be available.

See artwork from all across the nation in this juried exhibition. 46 pieces have been selected in multiple mediums. Exhibit opens May 13th.

A Painterly Palette: The Art of Mary Addison Hackett

Mary Addison Hackett received her BFA from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago  in 1995 before moving to Los Angeles in 2000.  She has exhibited at Torrance Art Museum (Torrance, CA), Kristi Engle Gallery (Los Angeles, CA) and Irvine Fine Arts Center (Irvine, CA) among others. Her paintings are on exhibit through July 4th.

American Red Cross Offers Babysitter's Training in Greater Nashville Area

Where and When: All courses are being offered from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Nashville Area Chapter - Saturday, May 19th - Saturday, June 16th - Saturday, July 21st - Saturday, August 18th

Heart of Tennessee Chapter - Saturday, June 9th -Saturday, July 14th - Saturday, August 11th

Clarksville/Montgomery County Chapter – Saturday, June 16th -Saturday, July 21st 

Why: This spring and summer the American Red Cross is offering a Babysitter's Training course that will give 11-15 year-olds the skills and confidence to safely and responsibly care for children and infants, as well as some tools to help them get started in their own babysitting business. Caregiving skills take prospective young sitters from feeding to diapering and playtime to bedtime routines. Participants also learn how to handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents. Participants learn decision making and problem solving skills as well as how to draft resumes and interview for potential jobs. Take-home tools include a compact emergency reference guide, a CD-ROM featuring games, songs, and recipes, and a babysitting client organizer.

How: The course is $85 and people can visit redcross.org/babysitting or call 1-800-RED-CROSS for details and to register for a class.


 
May Fest Music Festival 

The second annual May Fest Music Festival will be held on Saturday, May 26th 2012 in Fairview, TN at Bowie Nature Park.  The gates will open at 12:00 Noon with entertainment continuing until 8:30 pm. This is a FREE event hosted by the City of Fairview.  Parking will cost $5.00.

Memorial Day Service

When: The service will begin at 9:30am Sunday May 27.

Where: Northside Baptist Church is located at 655 Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro, next to Siegel High School.

Description: The local congregation of Northside Baptist Church will honor military veterans. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bobby Welch who is a retired captain of the United States Army. He is a past president of the Southern Baptist Convention and currently serves as the Associate Executive Director of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.  Welch travels the globe speaking on military posts, at churches, and other venues.
