Police Search For South Nashville Shooting Suspect

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - In Crime Stoppers, police are trying to solve the murder of a man in South Nashville. The victim was shot and killed while riding in the front of a pickup truck traveling down Haywood Lane.

Police said they need information about a fight that occured before the murder. It was just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 26.

Juan Piedra was with his brothers and some friends at the International Ballroom on Nolensville Road in South Nashville. Piedra got into a fight with two men.

"The brothers and friends break up the fight, and go and get back into the yellow pickup truck they came in," said Derry Baltimore, Metro Nashville Police Department.

As they drove down Haywood Lane a black Chevy Tahoe followed them. Someone in the Tahoe fired several shots at the pickup.

Piedra was sitting in the front passenger seat. He was shot in the head, and died at a local hospital.

"I need to find out who he was fighting with. According to security guards one guy sustained a bloody nose. He was bleeding from the nose," said Baltimore.

Police said several people witnessed the fight. Investigators have talked to a few of them, but they're pretty sure other people saw what happened. Police want the name of the man who suffered the bloody nose.

"Obviously, whoever he was fighting with could possibly be a suspect in this, and we would just like to sit down and talk with him and find out what he knows about it," said Baltimore.

Police have located the Chevy Tahoe and the owner, but they don't know who fired the shots that killed Piedra.

If you have information about the fight or if you have an idea who might have killed Juan Piedra call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
