NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police want to find the people responsible for shooting and killing a 23-year-old Nashville man nearly 6 years ago. At least three men fired into Reginald Witherspoon's car.

The incident happened at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. Witherspoon drove his car down Smiley Street near the Parkway Terrace Homes area in East Nashville.
"He [Witherspoon] got to the intersection of Smiley Street and North 9th St. He made a U-turn, coming back from the earlier direction in which he was headed. As he got here in front of the address being 819 Smiley Street, he stopped and had a brief conversation with at least three individuals here. One of those got into the passenger side of the victim's vehicle and they drove from this location here down to the intersection with Neil Avenue," said Metro police detective Danny Satterfield.

The other men walked behind the car, and followed it down Smiley Street. When Witherspoon stopped at the stop sign the passenger got out. He and the other two men surrounded the car and fired into it. Witherspoon was shot several times and died at the scene.

Witnesses saw three men running from the scene, but police said there were other witnesses who have not come forward.

"There's quite a bit of traffic and several people were out that night, being a weekend night as it was. We know that there were people out that saw this incident take place, at least part of the event that took place, and we would like for those people to call Crime Stoppers," said Satterfield.

If you have information about the people who killed Reginald Witherspoon, your tip to Crime Stoppers could earn you a cash reward.
