Driver Identified In Fatal Wreck On I-40 West

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police said it was reckless driving that caused a fatal crash on the interstate near downtown Nashville on Monday morning.

Police have identified the man who was killed as 45-year-old Robert Ridley.

They said he was driving westbound on the I-24 ramp to get onto I-40 West when he ran into another driver.

Witnesses said he sped off from that collision and read-ended another car, before losing control and hitting an overpass wall.

Ridley was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died. The drivers of the other vehicles had minor injuries.

All westbound lanes at mile marker 212.8 on Interstate 40 West were shut down for hours.

Tennessee Department of Transportation estimated that the crash site would be cleared by 1:10 p.m., but did not actually clear the site until around 2:45 p.m.
