Couple Charged In Death Of Son's Girlfriend

WAYNESBORO, Tenn. - Police charged a southern Middle Tennessee couple with first-degree murder in the death of their son's girlfriend, and Tuesday the district attorney issued a plea to the public to help locate the body of 21-year-old Rosemary Goggins.

A statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed the murder charges against 46-year-old Steven Beersdorf and 43-year-old Sylvia Beersdorf of Waynesboro.

Goggins was the girlfriend of Steven Beersdorf Jr., who returned home on leave from the Tennessee National Guard. The agency said Goggins was the mother of the younger Beersdorf's 11-month-old son.

The TBI said Goggins has been missing for more than a week. The 21-year-old mother's burned car was found Jan. 15 on a rural road in McNairy County. The district attorney said Tuesday it is now believed Goggin's body is somewhere between Interstate 40 and the New Clifton Bridge along the Tennessee River.

The district attorney also said that Goggins' body was most likely burned and dumped, so searchers should pay close attention to all debris.
