Commodores Win Some Recruiting Battles

Posted:

(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Bobby Johnson and the Vanderbilt Commodores are seeing concrete benefits from their Music City Bowl victory in 2008.

Johnson has 24 signees Wednesday including a rare junior college enrollee in Jordan Rodgers, the younger brother of the NFL's Green Bay Packers quarterback, in a class being called his best yet.

New Tennessee coach Derek Dooley has a strong class in his two weeks on the job, while new Memphis coach Larry Porter bolstered his first class with some junior college talent. Rick Stockstill added 20 signees at Middle Tennessee State fresh off the Blue Raiders' own bowl win.

Rivals.com analyst Barton Simmons said the Commodores are winning recruiting battles against fellow Southeastern Conference teams.
