Smash, Grab Burglar Targets 8 Businesses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police need help finding a man using a crow bar to burglarize businesses in Green Hills and West Nashville. Investigators believe he hit eight places all in one night.

Surveillance video taken from a camera inside a restaurant on Hillsboro Road shows the burglar. He tried unsuccessfully to pry open the cash register drawer.

Detective Mike Moss said the break-in at Choptle on Hillsboro Road was similar to seven others on the night before Easter. Police think the same man committed them all.

"It's hard for you all to see in the video, but that crowbar actually has yellow paint on it," said Martin.

At a business on 12th Avenue South yellow paint chips found on the back door appear to be a match. Katy K said the alarm at her business went off around midnight.

"He didn't take any merchandise. It was just cash and he made a mess trying to find the cash," said Katy K.

Her biggest expense was replacing the back door at a cost of more than $1,000.

She's thinking about installing a surveillance camera of her own like the one at Chipotle. The angle is a little high, but the burglar does look up.

If you recognize the man in the photo call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
