NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NewsChannel 5 met up with a local high school's pop ensemble that puts the "glee" in glee club.

The television show "Glee" has become pretty popular these days. It's a show about the misadventures of a high school glee club.

During a warm up for the pop ensemble at Pearl Cohn High School, music teacher Llewelyn Peter, takes the students through their paces.

Pearl-Cohn's ensemble has performed in front of many audiences with each student bringing something special to the family.

Theron Boyd gets his chance to shine with a song from The Wiz.

"It just makes me feel like I have a voice, and that my voice can be heard. Out of all these wonderful singers, that he chose me to pick a song. It just makes me feel special," said Boyd.

Marva Blanchard-Woods is the executive principal of Pearl Cohn and the visionary behind the Ensemble. She drafted Mr. Peter, after working with him in middle school.

Besides being the outstanding singers that they are, there's something else that ties all of Pearl Cohn's students together: pride in a school that is often unfairly judged.

When they come into Mr. Peter's class, they see a loving taskmaster.

"I'm changing each person's life, and that's a wonderful thing to give back. Then they reciprocate by loving me," said Peter.

Pearl Cohn's Pop Ensemble has performed in front of many audiences, including concerts at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
