FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Two 101st Airborne soldiers have been killed in the Konar province of Afghanistan after insurgents opened fire.
The Defense Department said that 40-year-old Spc. David W. Thomas died Sunday in Konar. Thirty-one year-old Staff Sgt. Eric B. Shaw, of Exeter, Maine, also died in the attack.
Shaw leaves behind a wife and two daughters who live in Clarksville. He's also survived by his mother.
Thomas was originally from St. Petersburg, Florida. He leaves behind a wife, son, daughter and step-son who live in Fort Campbell. He also has a daughter in Florida and a son in Ohio.
Shaw and Thomas were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.
Fellow soldiers will hold a memorial service in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a remembrance ceremony each month. The next one will be July 21 at 4 p.m.
