NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police are looking for several suspects who shot and killed a 14-year-old boy. Witnesses heard gunfire shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of South 8th Street in the James Cayce public housing development.
Investigators believe Ronquez Bigsby was arguing with several other men when they opened fire. Bigsby was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died as doctors tried to save him. Police said he was shot multiple times.
"It's devastating," said Metro Police Captain Terence Graves, "Imagine you have a 14-year-old and he's not coming home tonight due to gunfire. It's always tragic any time a child is taken from us this early."
Detectives have identified certain teens from the area who are being sought for questioning.
"It's important that we find the people that are responsible for this," said Graves, "If you're willing to kill a child like this, there's no telling what you're capable of."
Wednesday morning detectives still had a good portion of South 8th blocked by police tape and were interviewing witnesses.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone who has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
