(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The lone scheduled meeting this season between the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference is a matchup of the leagues' only private universities.
The only real difference between the schools is that Northwestern has found the winning groove in recent years that Vanderbilt seeks.
The Wildcats have won six or more games nine times since 1995, they are coming off an 8-5 record and coach Pat Fitzgerald opens this season looking for a third straight bowl appearance.
In 2008, Vanderbilt went to its first bowl game since 1955. Then the bottom fell out last year and the Commodores went 2-10, losing their final eight games of the season.
