Woman Passing Stolen Checks May Be Part Of Burglary Ring

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police are hoping someone can identify a woman caught on tape passing checks stolen from a home in East Nashville.

Metro Police believe the woman is part of a burglary ring. Not only do they steal items from homes, they take identities as well.

"It kind of blurs the face a little bit, but it should be easily recognized by someone that knows this person," said Mark Woodfin with the Metro Police Department.

The woman passed the bad check at a grocery store in Murfreesboro. Just before 2 p.m. on July 10, someone burglarized a home in the 1400 block of Russell Street. They took several items including a TV and a computer.

"Unfortunately for about a week he didn't notice his checkbook had been taken also," said Woodfin.

A few days later, the victim received his bank statement. Several of his checks were written at businesses all over Middle Tennessee.

Investigators believe the video is a key to finding the thieves. They believe the identity of this woman can lead them to the East Nashville burglars.

Police believe someone else is breaking into homes and stealing the checks and then she passes them off at local merchants.

Looking closely at the video, police said there is a small child with the woman.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or you can submit tips through their website: www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com.
