Confident Commodores Happy To Start In SEC Shadows

Posted:

(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt returns three starters from a team that finished second in the Southeastern Conference East last season, yet the Commodores see Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia all predicted to finish ahead of them this time around.

Being overlooked again is just fine with coach Kevin Stallings.

Vanderbilt did pretty well without much attention last year, finishing second in the East with a 12-4 mark.

This isn't a program that talks about itself. Stallings said they're not promoting themselves either and that the Commodores just work hard at being themselves. He also said he likes who the Commodores are and that it's not just in their nature to blow their own horn.

Vanderbilt defeated Alabama-Huntsville 63 to 53 Wednesday night. They will host Southern Indiana on Nov. 8 in the team's final exhibition game.
