NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An illegal immigrant who gained national attention when she gave birth in Metro Police custody has lost another appeal to stay in the country.
The U.S. 6th District Court of Appeals refused to review a deportation order issued against Juana Villegas.
Her attorney said their next move is to seek a hearing with the entire panel of 6th Circuit judges, and if that fails, they'll ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear her case.
Villegas, a Mexican national, was nine months pregnant in 2008 when Metro police pulled her over, and jailed her for not having a driver's license.
She later gave birth in custody and claimed she was shackled before, during, and after the delivery.
Villegas was deported once before back in 1997 and re-entered the country illegally.
