Michael E. Moore
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Solicitor General Michael E. Moore, who oversaw state appeals cases and supervised legal opinion issued by the state attorney general, has died. He was 60.
The attorney general's office said Moore died Sunday morning after what it described as a lengthy illness. He had served as solicitor general for 17 years.
Attorney General Bob Cooper in a release on Tuesday called Moore "brilliant, principled and fearless."
Moore represented the state in numerous appeals to the state Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He also argued three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Moore earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth and his law degree from Stanford.
