MDHA Receives More Funding For Weatherization Assistance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - As winter approaches, the Metro Housing Development Agency is once again stepping forward to help those in need.

On Friday, MDHA announced they have receiving additional funding to extend the Weatherization Assistance Program for qualified Davidson County residents into 2011.

Before 2009, MDHA assisted between 100 and 150 families a year. This past year they weatherized more than a thousand homes, which was a record for the agency.

They have served more than 1,000 families so far in 2010, and expect to serve an additional 600 families into 2011.

The program helps low-to moderate-income homeowners and renters, especially elderly and disabled here in Nashville to minimize their energy consumption and expenses.

People are eligible for the program based on established federal income guidelines, and all work is done by licensed contractors.

In addition to helping those in need, MDHA said the program has also helped to create more than a hundred jobs for contractors here in Middle Tennessee.
