Lanes Back Open After Semi Fire On I-24 In Christian Co.

Posted: Updated:

HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. – Kentucky Transportation officials said lanes are reopened on Interstate 24 Eastbound near mile marker 74 after a semi caught fire Wednesday morning.

Both lanes of travel were closed for hours, and highway crews established a detour for motorists.

Eastbound traffic took Exit 73 for KY 117 Gracey over to US 41-A and back to I-24 at Exit 86.

Officials advised motorists to use appropriate caution along the detour route due to increased traffic flow.

The truck was loaded with 980 passenger tires from Continental Tire. Fire fighters attacked the fire with foam. Crews had difficulty due to temperatures and load configuration.

The truck driver advised that the fire was due to a faulty brake issue.

Officials said the recovery process at the site is still ongoing.
