Robots In Emergency Room Being Studied At Vanderbilt

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A team at Vanderbilt University in Nashville is exploring the use of robotics in hospital emergency rooms.

The study is being done by computer engineers at Vanderbilt University and specialists in emergency medicine at the Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Team member Mitch Wilkes says advances in humanoid robotic design, sensor technology and cognitive control measures now make such a system feasible.

Officials said robots could shorten the wait time for patients, relieve the strain on overburdened emergency room staff and reduce mistakes.

Robots would treat patients with non-life-threatening conditions.
