NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man has died after being caught in a house fire in North Nashville.
Firefighters were called to the home on Underwood Street near D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard just after midnight Monday. They found a man inside the abandoned home who had been overcome by smoke.
They got him outside and tried to resuscitate him but he later died at the hospital.
When firefighters went back to make sure no one else was inside, they found 8 or 9 puppies inside the burning house.
"At first we thought most of the puppies were dead, we gave them O2 and warmed them and they are doing fine. We'll take them back to the station," said George Hickey with the Nashville Fire Department
Investigators still aren't sure how the fire started, but said it was likely caused by someone trying to stay warm.
