Eastbound I-40 Closed In Smith County

SMITH COUNTY, Tenn. – Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 have been shut down after a crash involving two semi trucks and a passenger vehicle.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. Monday on I-40 at mile marker 253.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said one person may have been killed.

All eastbound lanes were blocked, with traffic being diverted to alternate routes. Troopers advised motorists to get off the interstate at exit 239-B and take Highway 70 North to Carthage, and then get back on the interstate.

Crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation did not expect to open the road until 7 p.m.
