Metro Teacher Uses Technology To Reach Students

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An Overton high school science teacher is using a bit of technology and creativity to go a long way with his students. It all came about because Metro students haven't been able to attend class this week.

Believe it or not, Adam Taylor is using Twitter and Ustream as teaching tools.

Taylor said with kids being out of school for so many days he had to find a creative way to get them back in class, even if some didn't want to be there. Taylor actually held classes by video chat. Students simply sent in questions and he answered. That's not all, he's also been teaching other educators this week. He's held several teacher development classes online.

It's an effort he said to show the effectiveness of social networking and technology in the classroom. Things have worked so well this week he said his students can expect to see him outside of class a lot more often.

"Some of the kids like it, but one girl in particular she said 'are you serious?' That's what she tweeted, but she showed up any way and hopefully she learned something," Taylor told NewsChannel 5.

Taylor has a reputation of being a pretty creative teacher. He was recently selected as Overton's teacher of the year.
