NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Firefighters responded to a house fire Friday morning on Graybar Lane in the Green Hills area.

The fire started around 4 a.m. Flames were seen shooting from the roof when crews arrived.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames, but they dealt with a lot of smoke for hours. No word yet on what started the blaze.

Metro fire chief Ricky Taylor said it appeared the fire started in the den and kitchen area. Fire officials will continue to investigate. They said the home will likely be declared a total loss.

Five people lived in the home including two men in a band. Everyone made it out safely. They were woken up by smoke detectors. The residents fear their pet birds not survive.

Taylor said a firefighter was injured while battling the hot spots. He reportedly fell through a floor and injured his leg.

A fire personnel also reportedly slip and fell on the ice. He only received minor injuries.

Crews put down salt to prevent the water from freezing on the roads.
