COLUMBIA, Tenn. (AP) - The parents of a Columbia Marine wounded in Afghanistan say he is expected to be taken off life support.
According to The Daily Herald, 27-year-old Lance Corporal Andrew Carpenter is brain dead after being shot on patrol Monday.
The paper quoted his father, Kevin Carpenter, as saying his son was shot in the neck and his spinal cord was severed. He is on a ventilator.
Carpenter, a 2002 graduate of Columbia Central High School, was deployed last August, and was supposed to be returning sometime this spring.
Carpenter's wife, Crissie, who lives in Dickson, is ready to give birth to a baby boy, sometime in the next couple weeks.
