MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Police said a woman is lucky to be alive after jumping from a moving vehicle in a desperate effort to escape a carjacker.

Zerene Mayes told detectives her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Locke, jumped into her car and held her at gunpoint on South Church Street in Murfreesboro.

They drove to Bedford County where Mayes said she slowed down enough to jump from the car.

Locke then allegedly fired eight shots at Mayes before driving away. Mayes was unhurt.

Sheriff's deputies later arrested Locke. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
