Posted: Updated:

GORDONSVILLE, Tenn. – A fatal crash has the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 partially blocked in Smith County. This is the second crash that happened in that area on Wednesday morning.

A tractor-trailer and a vehicle crashed around 6:30 a.m. at mile marker 265. Officials estimate the scene to be cleared by 12 p.m. The identity of the person killed is not yet known.

Another crash involving two tractor-trailer rigs closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near mile marker 262.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation reports at least one of the trucks overturned around 4 a.m. Wednesday in Smith County. Both westbound lanes had been blocked.

Rain was falling across the region at the time.

There was no immediate word on injuries. TDOT estimates the wreckage won't be cleared until 10 a.m.

Officials said traffic is being diverted to alternate routes for both crashes. Eastbound traffic is affected with rubbernecking delays.
