NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The world's most famous tennis shoe company is chiming in on local Nashville politics.

An official with Nike reportedly sent a letter to Metro Council member Mike Jameson, stating the company's support for the Non-Discrimination bill, that would require city contractors to adopt non-discrimination policies for gay, lesbian, and transgender workers.

The City Paper reports the letter expressed support the ordinance, which, it said "seeks to uphold the basic principles of equality and fairness."

Nike employs around 2,000 Tennesseans, most of those in Memphis.
