Antioch Senior Is Only Girl To Wrestle In Metro Schools
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - At first glance, she looks like an average high school senior, but Jasmine Cothran is one of kind, when it comes to hitting the mat.
The Antioch high school student is the only female in Metro Public Schools to wrestle competitively.
She recently took third place in the Girls State Wrestling Tournament, and that was after she injured her knee.
"A lot of the guys think that I'm the scorekeeper or a manager. And I'll have our Antioch hoodie on and they think I'm just here to take score," said Cothran. "And when I take my hoodie off, they're like, that's a singlet. So I get the question all the time, ‘Do you wrestle?' Yes I do."
Jasmine hopes to wrestle in college. Right now, she's currently giving her expertise to a female sophomore at Antioch who also wants to wrestle.
