NASHVILLE, Tenn.- This week, is the one year mark of health care reform. The Tennessee Health Care Campaign put on a birthday party at Legislative Plaza to mark the event. The progressive group points out more than 5 million Tennesseans have already benefited from the Health Care Reform Act.
"There are no longer lifetime limits on coverage to people with chronic conditions or catastrophic illnesses, they will no longer run out," said Beth Uselton with THCC.
But Republicans are critical of the year old health care overhaul. In the weekly Republican radio and Internet address, Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell says the law is overly burdensome for states and businesses.
He says it should be replaced with free-market policies that lower costs and increase coverage. Among the examples he cited are lawsuit reform and letting consumers buy health insurance across state lines.
McDonnell said the law, as is, "simply will not work." A majority of states including Virginia say the law is unconstitutional and they are challenging it in the courts.
