(AP Photo)(AP) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Melvin Goins is trying his hand at football after wrapping up his basketball eligibility at Tennessee.
The point guard worked out with the Volunteers' secondary during a spring practice session on Tuesday afternoon.
Goins has exhausted his basketball eligibility and would need a waiver from the NCAA to play football in his one remaining year of college athletic eligibility. He's set to graduate this summer and would also need to enroll in graduate school at Tennessee.
When asked if Goins looked like a cornerback or safety, coach Derek Dooley joked he looked more like a point guard.
Goins averaged 6.7 points and 2.3 assists in two seasons with the Vols basketball squad. He played at Ball State his freshman year and Mt. San Jacinto College as a sophomore.
