CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Operators of a wastewater treatment plant where a wall collapse killed two employees are working to restart it and stop a flow of sewage into a rain-swollen river at Gatlinburg while regulatory agencies try to find out what happened.
The victims worked for Veolia Water North America of Chicago. Spokesman Matt Demo said Wednesday that the company operates treatment plants in about 650 communities nationwide. He said an investigation is continuing.
Two other employees were at the plant near the Little Pigeon River when the wall collapsed. Demo said after the company gets details of what happened, the two employees who witnessed the collapse will be made available to tell what they saw.
