NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Portland woman was killed after an early morning crash Friday on Interstate 65. Police identified her as 39-year-old Tracy Denning.

The single-car crash happened around midnight in the southbound lanes near Dickerson Pike. She was driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Investigators said Denning hit the median, then her car went across the roadway and over into a wooded area where she hit a tree. Police do not yet know why she veered off the road.

She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Toxicology testing will be done to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

All lanes of I-65 reopened around 5 a.m.
