GALLATIN, Tenn. - Authorities believe a Gallatin man used a medieval role playing game to make friends, then prey on their children.
His name is Sir Lotek, a knight and archer in a medieval mock combat world. But his real name is David Agostinho and his real job is computer technician.
In the 1990s, Agostinho immersed himself in the world of live action role playing, making several close friendships along the way.
"Mr. Agostinho met families through the medieval social networking group, and that's how he became involved with the victims," said Det. Lisa House with the Sumner County Sheriff's Office. "He would befriend the families, take vacations and trips together, and befriend these kids."
Authorities believe Agostinho raped and molested at least four victims, both male and female. The youngest of those children was just six when the incidents began.
Agostinho now faces two aggravated statutory rape charges and one charge of rape of a child. While the incidents happened several years ago, detectives said the victims only recently decided to come forward.
"A lot of these victims are now adults. They have to deal with this from when it happens, to when they reach adult age. It wears on them," said Det. House.
Now, it's possible more victims who met Agostinho through medieval role playing could come forward in the case.
Agostinho is currently behind bars.
"We do this for the children, we get closure for the children and for the families," said House.
Investigators have taken computers and evidence from Agostinho's home as part of the case, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.
Authorities said it's important to remember the medieval role playing group had no clue about Agostinho's alleged actions, and had no involvement in the criminal acts themselves.
