(AP) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin has signed point guard Wes Washpun, the first player he's signed since being hired over two weeks ago.
Washpun, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, averaged 18 points, 5.4 rebounds, four assists, 3.7 steals and 2.1 blocks per game during his senior season at Washington High School and earned all-state honors.
He set the school's single-season steals record with 92.
Washpun plans to enroll at Tennessee this summer. He said Martin recruited him while the coach was still at Missouri State, and the ongoing relationship with Martin is what attracted him to Tennessee.
Washpun is the second member of Tennessee's signing class, joining guard Chris Jones, who signed with the Volunteers under former coach Bruce Pearl.
