RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. - The case against a man accused of brutally killing his girlfriend and then trying to flee the country is now in the hands of the Rutherford County grand jury.
Maximalian Ocon is accused of beating and strangling Rafaela Ortiz inside her La Vergne home back in November.
Ortiz's daughter was in the house at the time, but police said she is deaf, and didn't even know what happened.
Police said Ocon took off to Houston after the murder, and was just about to board an international flight when customs agents stopped him.
Ocon claims it was self-defense, and that he blacked out and when he woke up, Ortiz was dead.
