NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A petition that would help get the future of the state fairgrounds on the ballot is getting closer to its goal. Council member Jamie Hollin said the number of signatures has reached 10,000.
Hollin organized the push to gather the 16,000 signatures necessary to get the issue on the August ballot.
Petition For Referendum Vote To Save State Fairgrounds
If approved, the measure would guarantee that all activities currently held at the Fairgrounds would continue, and that no demolition could take place there without 27 votes from the Metro Council.
The Mayor's office has expressed concerns about obligating the city to a state fair and racetrack that they said is losing money.
