East Nashville Farmers' Market Accepting Food Stamps

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - They've accepted cash in exchange for fresh food for years. But for the first time ever, the East Nashville Farmers' Market is taking food stamps.

To kick off its fourth year of business, the farmers' market brought in top locals chefs, musicians, and a petting zoo for the grand opening on Wednesday.

Officials also announced that food stamps will be accepted. The goal is to provide fresh and healthy food to everyone regardless of how they're paying.

Community Food Advocates helped with the initiative in an effort to supply the East Nashville area with as much access to fresh food as possible.

Chefs from City House, Tayst, Flyte and Turnip Truck all shop at the East Nashville Farmers market for organic and local cheese, milk, bread, honey, fruit and vegetables.

The market also houses over 30 vendors and is excited to reach a new demographic by accepting food stamps.

The market runs every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. until the end of October.
