Building Permit Obtained For Murfreesboro Mosque

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Leaders of the Islamic Center in Murfreesboro said they have obtained a building permit to construct their new mosque on Veals Road.

There is no word on when construction will start, because there's no exact cost yet for the facility.

However, leaders said they hope to have the nearly 12,000 square-foot mosque finished within a year.

The news comes days after a Rutherford County judge threw out most of the complaints raised by 17 plaintiffs suing the county over the mosque.

They will be allowed to continue their lawsuit, with the claim that the county violated the Open Meetings Act by not giving proper notice for the meeting when plans for the new mosque were approved.
